WASHINGTON, N.J. (July 16, 2010) - Is your child looking for something fun to do and enjoys making cookies?

Then he or she might want to just enter those cookies in the Washington Business Improvement District's "Farmers Market Kids Cookie Contest", which takes place Friday July 23 as part of the organization's regular Farmers Market. Every kid who enters will be recognized and the one who is deemed the Best Cookie Maker will get a trophy!

In addition to the Cookie Contest, visitors can welcome the two newest vendors to the weekly market, L&L Orchards (locally grown fresh fruits, including out of this world plums) of Glen Gardner, and Around the World in 80 Cakes from Washington. Around the World features scrumptious cakes, caramel popcorn, chocolate truffles, cookies, and brownies.

The award-winning Washington Farmers Market has an array of fresh fruits and vegetables and other goodies, and runs weekly from 3-7 p.m. (through September) in the Methodist Church parking lot near Routes 31 and 57.

This year's returning vendors include Vacchiano Farms (homestyle fruit pies & chicken pot pies, honey, locally grown fresh fruits & vegetables), Maxwell's Farm (locally grown fresh fruits, vegetables & fresh cut flowers), Kapry's Catering (Polish specialties), The Sausage Man (fresh homestyle premium sausage), Grandma Jo (baked goods such as fruit cobblers, sweet cakes, muffins & scones), and Stone Row Acres (locally grown herbs & sppices, perennials, vegetables, and fresh cut flowers).

The hugely popular farmers market, celebrating its seventh anniversary this year, is the longest running farmers' market in Warren County.
