State Senator Michael Doherty will be the featured speaker at the Washington Business Improvement District's next Lunch 'N Learn, Thursday Feb. 9, at Enzo's Pasta Grill, Route 57, Washington. 

Sen. Doherty will give updates on matters of importance in Trenton, including those issues that might affect the business community. There will be time for questions and answers afterwards. This event is open to members of the business community, in Washington and elsewhere, as well as area residents.   The Lunch & Learn begins at 11:45 am and ends by 1:15 p.m.

Sen. Doherty is currently serving his third term in the New Jersey Senate, representing the 23rd Legislative District. Sen. Doherty is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Education Committee from 2002-2009, he served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2001-2003, he was a member of the Warren County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Sen. Doherty has been involved in much key legislation in Trenton. He was the prime sponsor of a Constitutional Amendment to require voter approval of State contract bonding, and he was the prime sponsor of a college credit transfer bill that provides for a seamless transfer of credits from New Jersey’s county colleges to its four year institutions. Sen. Doherty was the prime sponsor of legislation to require public employees to contribute to their health benefits plan, and legislation to cap interest arbitration awards. The Senator is a proponent for a fair educational funding formula that takes the income tax fund and distributes the fund equally to each student.

Sen. Doherty was born in Point Pleasant, and attended public schools in Glen Ridge. He is a 1985 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He served in the United States Army from 1985 to 1993, achieving the rank of Captain. In 1993, Sen. Doherty graduated from Seton Hall University School of Law, and he is a member of the bars of New Jersey and New York, and is a registered patent attorney. He and his wife, Linda, longtime residents of Washington, have three sons who have all served on active duty in the U.S. military. 

This is one of several events presented by the Washington BID throughout the year. In addition to various annual events, each month the WBID hosts the Lunch 'N Learn the second Thursday and BID Goodnight Networking the first Tuesday.
